About This Site

Who Am I?

My name is Marion, also known as Frau Sophia Kress in the SCA, I live in Southeastern Virginia with my very supportive husband and small son. I have a Master's in Information and Library Science from Drexel University. I also love to cook and bake and try out new recipes.

If you have questions or comments, my email is m_mc_nealy *(at)* yahoo (dot) com Or check out my LiveJournal everyday doings and up-to-date happenings in costuming.

Why?

Welcome to my 3-ring circus: research, experiments and food. I am endeavoring to not only provide a useful resource for people trying to re-create clothing (not costumes) from the German lands between 1500 and 1600, but also to document my adventures, or misadventures as the case may be, in making clothes to wear. I am not claiming to be an expert, but instead someone who studies the sources and tries to figure out how to get the right look using similar techniques and materials. This does not mean that I am a strictly period person, but I do make an effort to keep it close, as close as my budget will afford. Being a middle class person with a middle class persona, this matches up well. Being someone who can't just do one project at a time, I always have at least three going.

I also love to cook and bake, and being a celiac (someone who can't eat gluten, its the stretchy protein in wheat, oats, barley and rye), I am constantly on the search for new recipes that are gluten free already or can be adapted. I also try not to eat dairy, so I make them dairy free as well.
